[geomesa-users] Confused with data stores and GeoServer plugins

Hi, I'm confused a bit.

It seems to me that GeoMesa is backed by Accumulo and it has geoserver plugin for the GeoServer. So Geoserver can go to "nearly unlimited" datastore to query data.

Why does geomesa provides more plugins for HBase, Cassandara, e.t.c.?

Am I right that these datastores are equivalent and I can either HBase or Accumulo?
